Friends of Scouting

Youth is a time of learning and discovery ? a time when young people are faced with decisions that will affect the trail they follow for the rest of their lives. That?s why for nearly a century, the Denver Area Council has dedicated itself to providing a quality Scouting program to the youth of the greater Denver area. Scouting offers the young people in our communities the opportunity to blaze new trails in their lives, enjoy the outdoors, participate in productive activities, gain new skills and much more.

The kind and generous financial contributions of families like yours make this experience and discovery possible. Your donation will enable the Denver Area Council to offer high quality outdoor programs at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch, Tahosa High Adventure Base and the Magness Adventure Camp. While experiencing the outdoors, Scouts are developing values and character traits that will last a lifetime.

Your pledge helps us keep ours

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Discovery through quality programs and council services

Because of your support we are able to...

  • Maintain and support 3 first-class camping facilities: Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch, Magness Adventure Camp and Tahosa High Adventure Base.
  • Maintain 2 Council Service Centers with a full-time staff to support the volunteers who deliver the Scouting program.
  • Offer leadership training, instructional videos and free literature.
  • Support Scouting communities through the monthly on-line newsletter, roundtable meetings and the council web site.

What is Friends of Scouting?

Friends of Scouting is the annual campaign where the Capitol Area Council asks Scouting families, businesses and civic-minded citizens to support our mission of providing the Scouting program to tens of thousands of young people in Central Texas.

Why should I give to Friends of Scouting?

Friends of Scouting provides roughly one-quarter of the money needed to operate the Capitol Area Council's Scouting camps, programs and facilities for a calendar year. These camping and training facilities are the "outdoor classrooms" in which Scouts have fun, learn leadership skills and develop into better young men and women. The Capitol Area Council spends approximately $150 per Scout each year to deliver these benefits and much more.

I already paid my child's registration and his unit collects annual dues. Haven't I already supported Scouting?

Your child's registration fee goes directly to the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America. If your child's Scout unit collects dues, that money stays with the unit to help pay for trips and other activities. None of that money helps the Capitol Area Council pay for:

  • Maintaining and staffing the council's 7 camping properties
  • Training thousands of adult volunteer leaders in youth protection
  • Providing programs like Cub Scout Day Camp, Cub Scout Adventure Days, Cub Partner Campouts, Cub Scout Resident Camp, Webelos Extreme Adventure Camp, Webelos Winter Camp, Boy Scout Summer Camp, Boy Scout Winter Camp, Silver Pines Youth Leadership Training, Venturing Spring and Fall Activities
  • Updating this website, to try and better inform you about upcoming Scouting events and programs.
